A warthog who looks ugly but is brimming with confidence. As far as he is concerned, having a ferocious face is a natural advantage in the dog-eat-dog world of prison. Moreover, he refutes your assertion that he is ugly, saying that you simply do not appreciate his look. He claims that he is actually a major heartthrob among warthogs, which you find quite hard to believe.
Before going to prison, Hakuna worked for the city's demolition crew, whose job was—in the words of those at the top—to level the slums that stand in the way of progress. It was not a pleasant job, but he needed the money. He could not afford to be compassionate.
Outside of work, Hakuna had two main hobbies: gambling and women. Sometimes the former was a means to attain the latter. After all, his meager salary did not go far when attempting to impress the ladies. One night, he was down on his luck, losing all of his money in a poker game at a bar. This was terrible because he had recently been hitting it off with a waitress, and was hoping to buy her a gift with his winnings and then strike while the iron is hot. Now his plan is ruined.
As Hakuna stood in the alley behind the bar cursing his misfortune, a thin figure approached him. It was Teddy the Meerkat (also an inmate in this prison). Teddy was also a regular at the bar, and although he never gambled, he would drink with Hakuna from time to time. When he saw that Hakuna had lost all of his money, Teddy proposed a way for them to "make some big money".
Teddy was a former subway engineer. It is necessary to add the word "former" as he had just recently lost his job. As for the reason, that is another story. Anyway, he proposed that they both use their unique skills to pull off a major job that could solve all of their problems. The job in question was a heist on City Central Bank's underground vault!
As Teddy previously worked for the subway authority, he was able to see the subway plans that were not released to the public. They showed that an evacuation tunnel was built but never put into use, and that it was located directly below City Central Bank's underground vault, at a distance of less than 10 meters. If Hakuna could "borrow" some explosives and cutting tools from work, the vast amounts of cash in the vault could be theirs.
"What's the difference between sleeping in a bed without a woman and sleeping on a bunk in prison?!" Bitter about his current situation, Hakuna agreed without hesitation. "To hell with it. I'm in!"
The heist went down at midnight on New Year's Eve. This was Teddy's idea. The crowds of revelers and the fireworks provided the perfect cover as the pair broke into the vault. The next morning, the hungover security guard at the bank was stunned to see that the vault had been cleaned out.
So how did they get caught, you ask? Well, according to Hakuna, it was all because of Teddy. His hyperactivity relapsed, which resulted in him constantly talking in his sleep. His greedy, unfaithful wife heard everything, and she and her lover took Teddy's money for themselves. By a curious twist of fate, however, his wife and her lover accidentally died, causing the details of the vault heist to become exposed. Hakuna just could not seem to catch a break.
